I was informed by IBLCE that today is the last day to fill out this
survey. I would encourage everyone to do so by going to the iblce website.
I am sure that it is very difficult to create a good electronic survey.
This one was neither poor nor excellent, but more importantly it asks for
our input! With all of the concern over the SoP (which I share) I am
afraid this important survey will be overlooked.
For those who have not completed it, it asks us what practices and skills
we consider essential in our work as IBCLCs. My hope is that the results
of this survey will help determine the direction of the prerequisites to
sit the boards, and the content of the exam.
As we look towards licensure (OK, my personal hope)and being regarded as
the professionals that we are, we need to be sure that our exam reflects
this! I am not sure that I believe that, at this time, it reflects the
LEVEL of practice and skills we expect of entry level LCs.
I am not sure where I am going with this, just thinking out loud. I am not
suggesting more BC hours, but perhaps a completely different approach to
prerequisites.
Go take a look at the survey.
Linda Kingsley
