I have to ask this quite seriously - since when does breastfeeding preclude sex? For over 35 years I've led La Leche League meetings, and bring up the topic at almost every series (usually in the 3rd meeting of our series, but sometimes it's appropriate at other meetings because of questions I am asked). I have been approached by only 3 women saying they really have not had sex during breastfeeding (one for over 15 months).

Of course some may never have felt comfortable asking/commenting, but most of them "get it" and openly bring up issues and solutions when we talk about sex - such as:
- sex IS an important part of your relationship with your husband and men's needs are often poo-pooed as if their needs are not important - this is not fair any more than being forced to have sex when it is painful
 - if sex is painful - there are good lubricants available.
 - If sex continues to be painful, go to the doctor and have a checkup! Some moms have needed some surgery!
- your milk won't run out if your husband gets some (and he might avoid some illnesses - sorry, not evidence-based, but it helps lighten up the discussion <grin>).
 - usually you have more energy/interest in the early AM than at "bedtime"
 - have sex after breastfeeding (most husbands don't mind being awakened after the 3 am feeding if it's for sex)
 - have a thick towel handy in case of leaking...
- "L'appétit vient en mangeant " (the appetite comes while eating).

...just wondering...
