I find it interesting that this hospital tried to scare the mom out of
rooming in by suggesting that her baby could be kidnapped while she slept.
Twelve years ago, when I delivered my first baby in a major teaching hospital
in Boston, a baby was kidnapped right out of the nursery by a woman dressed
as a nurse.  I have insisted on rooming in with all my children, including
washing, weighing, vitamin K shots, etc.  The pediatrician did all their
exams in my room.  My husband went with the baby boys when they were
circumsized.
I want the baby in the bed with me where *I* can watch over them.  Certainly
no one could have removed the baby from my bed without waking me and I
wouldn't have let anyone, nurse's uniform or not, remove them from my room.
 Call me over-protective, but that's what we did.  I want my babies safe and
with me.
