Hello all,

I am the fairly new Coordinator of Lactation Services for a large birth
center in the U.S. One of the ways we are interested in expanding our
services is a Facebook support group for moms who give birth with us, or
come to us for breastfeeding help. I am envisioning this as a
closed/private group. We could post updates, reminders of upcoming groups
or classes, and potentially field basic questions. I would prefer this
private group page model to an open, business-style page which anyone can
see (and, with the recent changes by Facebook, almost no one actually DOES
see...)

Does anyone out there have experience with running a group like this for
their clients? Any pitfalls to be aware of? Two I can think of right off
the top of my head are having to moderate/cut off discussion on
controversial topics, and the potential drain on staff time to check the
page, answer questions, etc. On the plus side, it seems like a great way to
remind people of our classes and groups, post interesting news, and answer
questions in a way where multiple people can see the answer (which might
lessen the drain on staff time in other ways - like fewer phone calls). Any
wisdom?

Thank you all so much!
Best,
Rebecca Costello IBCLC MPH
