Good morning all,

The usual Monday morning fiasco here; everyone "wanted" to breastfeed...now they are day three and four, no one is pumping...baby has been to breast once, nipples are sore.....blah, blah. And of course they are going home today.

I'm trying to come up with a simple care plan to send mom home with, like a "to do" list. Other than starting them to pump to get the milk moving, try to latch a baby who is expecting a fast flow, and maybe using a nipple shield briefly, does anyone have any other easy tips for me to put on paper?

I'm not going to completely pin it on the nurses; two of the moms told me "I just haven't gotten any sleep" and gave me the usual excuses. I just say, "those are your choices and this is the outcome. It's going to be a little difficult but it can be done if you follow our suggestions and get some help in the next few days."

Other than a magic wand, I'm stumped!
