Dear Heather,

No, it's not a British thing - I had to read it over quite a few times
before I finally figured it out (I think).  I believe she meant that the
mom had discontinued (eliminated) breastfeeding because it was difficult
to quantify the amount taken in at each feeding (hard to measure) thus
making it difficult to estimate how many calories the child was consuming
each day.  Another lame reason to quit breastfeeding.
