<<Hi All. This is from a client who was very confused about normal infant

yes, it's quite typical.

i try to find out exactly what the mom's planning on,hoping for. some
moms are absolutely uninterested in nursing at night or in bed no matter
what. For all new parents I recommend the Happiest Baby on the Block
and _the No Cry Sleep Solution_ by Elizabeth Pantley. Actually,l if
they know they're family bedding and are cool with the idea of sleeping
with their baby and nursing around the clock, i don't recommend the
latter until/or if they call me around 12 mos or so asking how they can
get more/better/different sleep.

I find Elizabeth pantley's approach to be respectful of some parents
need/wish to sleep (some moms can't sleep or get back to sleep if they
nurse at night), while respecting babies needs as well. harvey's
approach makes it easier for the baby to sleep longer. i make it clear
that longer night time sleep means more frequent day time nursing.

also, Pantley makes it clear that there is no attempt at lengthening
sleep for the first six weeks, and very positively frames holding your
baby and having them nurse to sleep at the breast.

ime, using those two resources combined (harvey's DVD and elizabeth's
book) are the best defense against ferber, babywise and the baby
whisperer.
