I was hoping to get an answer to the blood sugar question that might help
to educate and indeed did from my nutritionist friend and colleague. I
thought the list might like to read it.

This baby gets all the nutrients it needs through the day and seems to be
doing fine. Babies store glucose in their livers just like we do and are
perfectly capable of putting it out in their blood streams as needed. No
one has to be awake for this process to occur. This physician seems to be
misinformed. Tell the mother to relax. If baby is growing well and seems
happy in the morning, why mess with it.
PS My one concern would be that this baby may be low in iron if it
continues to have such long sleep periods. We attended a workshop on iron
in infancy done by Sheila Innes of Childrens Hospital and she said to
beware of the really good babies who are sleeping through the night and
seem lethargic. They could be low on iron stores. Was mom anemic in
her pregnancy? That would be something to follow up on.
