baby 3 months and 1 week old, weighing 10 lbs, 14 ounces. Ped diagnosed borderline failure to thrive. Mom is pumping 3-4 ounces a few times a day, but tries to feed only at the breast. Baby continues to pop off, screaming, and then get back on. Baby has been on Prevacid for 2 weeks, but hasn't had traditional signs of reflux. Baby has been happy until just a few weeks ago when the feeding issue started. Baby now doesn't want to recline or lie on either side. Mom has been doing football hold for last week, pumping afterward and attempting to feed that (baby usually won't take it), and keeping baby skin to skin frequently.

I weighed baby on Monday - 10 lbs, 14 ounces pre then 11.1 post. Today it was 11.1 pre, 11.3 post.

Mom has ample supply, pumps effectively, baby sometimes takes a bottle - but not often, but then fidgets and pulls off at the breast. When this happens, milk goes everywhere and baby goes right back to the breast. He feeds in 3 suck/swallow cycles.

We are starting to feed only on one side and to pump the other side. She'll skim the cream off the pumped milk and feed that as supplement since he won't take more than 1/2 ounce from the bottle usually.

He is pooping and peeing like crazy! Very healthy, alert, good muscle tone, happy, smiling kiddo - right up until you place him in a feeding position. Then he gets very mad!

What else would you recommend? Is this something more than Prevacid can help?

Thanks for your insight! (Good news - mom was devasted Monday as she had been following the Babywise philosophy and felt like a failure, but after a week of skin to skin has thrown the book in the trash! She was smiling and laughing which is always good to see!)
