This lady may want to consider using the foneastra- a new low cost simple
method of flash heating donor milk using a smart phone-based monitoring
device. It is adapted to guide the user through the pasteurization process.
The foneastra was developed by PATH and the University of Washington and
tested in Durban, South Africa and is currently being used in a number of
NICU's here. It is ideal for pasteurization of small amounts of milk and
the cycle, including cooling, takes about 17 min. The foneastra provides
monitoring and data tracking and safety has been verified through microbial
testing and post-pasteurization samples.
