Liz Brooks (14 June 03) did such a nice job of addressing this that I
only would like to emphasize the importance, if you are in attendance,
of questioning statements that need questioning, refuting statements
that are incorrect, and bringing up topics that need to be brought up.
Know that the formula company rep will try to brush off or dismiss your
input, but let it be clear to others in attendance that the question is
still open and the facts still stand. And stay calm. You don't have to
"win," you just have to mention the elephant in the livingroom.

In other words, I think it might do some harm to be a passive attender,
because whatever fallacies you don't refute, you may be seen as having
accepted.

P.S. Letting the host/hostess/maitre d' who greets you in the foyer
know, as well as the waiter, that you have to pay for your own dinner is
helpful.
