Susan,
Has the mom considered asking her pedi to treat the babies with Diflucan as
well? In Tom Hale's book (page 285), it states that although not FDA cleared
for neonates, 90% of practitioners use it. (It is cleared for use in babies
6 months and older.) He also states that numerous reports now suggest the
drug's safety and effectiveness in low birth weight neonates and infants.
Perhaps mom could share the references with her pedi?
Might mom's spouse/partner need to be treated as well? What about washing
all bed linens, towels and all underclothes -- for the entire family -- in
hot water to kill off any yeast? Is mom still pumping at all? If so, has she
been boiling all pump parts that come in contact with her nipples and
breastmilk?
Just some thoughts...
