Nancy Mohrbacher has put together a nice bibliography of articles on breast pain.  Also, in Jan Riordans book "Breastfeeding and human lactation" it states on page 296 that women with chronic breast pain may need 4-8 weeks of antibiotic therapy that will cover staph aureus.  Thomassen did a study in 1998 that concluded that deep breast pain is more likely bacterial and not fungal.
