I think some of the comments from moms that they "tried" an LC and
she (usually a she) didn't help may need to be taken with a grain of
salt. There are certainly some LCs who either try to have every mom
use the same approach, are too quick to have her give bottles,
aren't current on how best to help, etc. However, there are some
instances where "didn't help" means the LC couldn't wave a magic
wand and make her baby fit the mom's expectations such as being
satisfied with only feeding every 3 (or whatever number) hours,
couldn't make it so her baby would sleep at least 6 hours at night
in its own bed, couldn't guarantee that baby would get everything it
needs in 10 minutes or less of nursing, etc. etc. Often the LC is
blamed for "not helping" when the mom had unrealistic expectations
and the LCs attempts to help the mom be more in tune with her baby
was taken as not being of help.

Winnie
