Hello
My name is Tomoko Seo, a pediatrician and IBCLC in Japan.
According to the statistics from Ministry of Health, Labour and
Welfare, in 1993, full breastfeeding rate at 1 month postpartum is
46.2%. Mixed feeding, 45.9% and Formula feeding, 7.9%.
http://www.mhlw.go.jp/english/index.html
In Japan there is no statistics on " exclusive breastfeeding rate"
and " breastfeeding initiation rate". But very few infants are
exclusively breastfed and very few infants are exclusively formula
fed.
Breastfeeding initiation rate is more than 90% but not exclusively.
Mothers soon give up breastfeeding within several weeks postpartum
without help.
Regards,
Tomoko
