Anyone who is interested in protecting babies in emergencies please go to the ENN website http://www.ennonline.net/ife and check out the new Guide for the General Public on infant feeding in emergencies.
This guide contains information to empower ordinary people to keep aid agencies and governments accountable, help prevent the indiscriminant distribution of infant formula in emergencies and encourage support for breastfeeding in order to maximise child survival. It contains detailed explanation of what should happen and why there is often a problem in this area as well as linking to an article that explains why infant formula causes diarrhoea (the no 1 cause of infant death in emergencies). Please pass it on to breastfeeding advocates, colleagues, "ordinary" mums, friends and relatives so that next time there is an emergency you are able to do something. Please let ENN know what you think of the guide and how you have used it.
