This time I am asking for help.
I currently have a graduate pharmacy student who has been assigned a project
on folic acid, epilepsy, pregnancy, and breastfeeding.
The issue we have been assigned is:
Women planning to get pregnant who are not on anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs)
are supposed to take Folate 1 mg daily.
How much more should we be giving to women who are on AEDs and are trying to
get pregnant or who are already pregnant? Should we continue to supplement
at increased doses while breastfeeding?
Should we be supplementing with extra Vitamin D and calcium during pregnancy
and lactation?
If so, how much?
I would appreciate it what recommendations that you provide in any of the
above situations.
We have to present our findings on March 7, 2001.
Thank you for any insights.
