LACTNET Digest - 25 Apr 2003 - Special issue (#2003-591)For a long time our area had very few rental/lactation services within a close proximity. I had a rental station for 10 years and became burnt out...it is not easy keeping track of all that it can entail. I was relieved several years ago when a local medical supply store offered to provide pumps and have some available for our clients in the hospital. The objective was to have a service available so that "if" a pump was needed before discharge then we could eliminate another trip elsewhere for Dad. (most rental stations at that time were also quite a distance away). It was also a relief to have someone else take over the paper work...something that I no longer wanted to hassle with. In the last 2 years more services have come available in our community. Every one of our Breastfeeding Mothers receives a "Resource List" of rental stations, lactation services and LLL leaders in the immediate area. I think it is very important that Mom's are aware of the services and support groups available to her so that she has choices and options. At our classes and support groups we also provide a resource list as well as LLL meetings and other Mom's groups/classes available.
I salute and support anyone working on their own....
