As a nutritionist, I am appalled.

It's always a guess, but I'd stick with Nutramigen or Alimentum (which is
similar except has medium-chain triglycerides) and not bother trying soy.
At least Nutramigen and Alimentum are hydrolyzed foreign proteins; soy
formula is whole foreign protein.  Of course, human milk would be far, far
preferable.

Current info is that most colic resolves spontaneously at approximately 3
months of age.  Grandmother's actions at that point were likely irrelevant.
