Hello to everyone on Lactnet. Just a short note on the potential nomination
of Miriam Labbok for the post of Surgeon General. The National Alliance for
Breastfeeding Advocacy (NABA) is a not for profit organization which is
functioning to lobby for breastfeeding and serve in a coordinating function
to help give structure to breastfeeding promotional efforts. NABA has been
working with Miriam since the LLL Physicians Seminar in July on the process
of her nomination. Barbara Heiser, Karin Cadwell and myself, Marsha Walker
are the directors of NABA and are trying to effect this nomination in the
best way we can to assure that it happens. Barbara has a meeting Friday, 8-11
with a policy advocate in Washington who will help us develop the best
strategy to generate congressional support.

We must develop the strategy first before our letter is submitted to
President Clinton. Right now is not the time for letters. What we need now
are names of any of you who know someone or have a congressional contact. Our
highest current priority is to get congressional support. We will alert you
when the strategy has been planned and when to write those important letters.

Send your name to Barbara Heiser, NABA at [log in to unmask] if you have a
congressional contact.

Call me anytime for more information on this process and what NABA is all
about. We wil be able to make changes and improvements when all of us work
together in a coordinated way. Thanks for your help and patience and feel
free to e-mail me with your thoughts.
