Dear Friends:
    Pam describes the situation beautifully.
There isn't one thing that causes a consequence. It is almost always a
combination of susceptibilities.
So epidural by itself may not be a problem for breastfeeding; but add
induction to that. And add first time mother. And add pitocin. And then add
episiotomy/vacuum or cesarean section. All these together lead to a risk of
premature weaning.
Why give a dyad any susceptibility at all, unless medically indicated,
as in mother with pre-eclampsia or some such serious thing?
    warmly,

Nikki Lee RN, MS, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CCE
