I just heard from a mum who adopted her daughter at a year old 18 months
ago. Her daughter (and
thus mum) has had a rough time with post-instutionalisation and attachment
issues. However, they have together worked really hard and what they are
doing
is working. She's just got to a place where she has be able to start
breastfeeding (ie emotionally able to tolerate the intimacy associated with
breastfeeding).
Helping a child heal hurst of the past is a big thing and breastfeeding is
just not that important in the big picture but it can really help with
healing hurts just the same. I'm really looking forward to hearing how it
all
pans out for this mum and her precious daughter starting breastfeeding at
2.5 years.
