Boy, I am so sorry I started this discussion - inadvertently as such. I just
shared what we are dong a a hospital in suburban Chicago quite as an aside.
It really had very little to do with the main idea I was trying to share!!
But a wealth of information has been shared and I guess that is good.
I'm a little behind in reading Lactnet so imagine my delight to see Dr.
Jennifer Tieman post her intro and mention me! Dr Jen is the same age as my
oldest daughter and I considered it a privilege to work with her several
years ago. I wish we could clone her. Her residency community service project
was to implement a community support for breastfeeding and we began a
breastfeeding support group for mothers at an inner city clinic. It was fun
and gave us a very realistic perspective on the special needs of this
population. Out of that group we were able to train four peer counselors who
are out in the community, informally as I know (since I no longer work there)
but as most of you know, that's the best support you can get.
