Responding to this recent post and quoting:
Malathion has been widely used for so long, that one-time use would
probably not markedly increase the risk for this dyad.

Unfortunately, many pesticides have become resistant and people do not
stop at one application and take the "more is better route" or the "what
do we follow that treatment with?" route, which is a bad path to go
down, especially for a small child. I do not personally know how
dangerous this specific chemical is. I do know that when non-Rx
pyrethrum (Rid) does not work people have gone to Rx Lindane. It is
suspect in both seizures in the short term and child brain cancer such
as astrocytoma in the long term.

There is the National Pediculosis Association, NPA and their customer
service people can answer all of these questions in the mother/child
context.
They recommend the tried and true method of removal with a good quality
head lice comb to get rid of all the nits.
