I agree that discussing the importance of breastfeeding is an excellent
start.  Yet I have to disagree on the direction of what you propose.  While "the
cost of not breastfeeding, health and otherwise" is considered by breastfeeding
advocates to be  politically correct, shouldn't we be discussing the medical
risks of infant formula to the medical community?  We have a long standing body
of evidence on the risks of infant formula.

How would we address tobacco use to the medical community.  Would we  talk
about "the costs of not smoking" or would we talk about the risks of tobacco
use? I believe we would be direct, and honestly address the risks.  Why in this
area of health advocacy must we skirt being direct?  Are we obligated to the
infant formula industry, to make their lives easier?  Obviously, the infant
formula does not reciprocate, by making breastfeeding advocacy easier for us.
