I've stated this before, but in light of the
demonstration with latex balloons coming back up again
in discussion I decided to say it again: Please,
please, please screen your class, audience or clients
you're doing this beforehand for latex allergy first.

I am highly allergic to natural rubber latex. I had
to leave a job I'd been in for 15 years because of it.
Gloves, balloons and condoms are the worst offenders
as they are made by forms being dipped into liquid
rubber. Balloons are also powdered and the powder
binds with and releases rubber particles into the air.
The highest danger is if a balloon should burst, but
some people with the allergy become so sensitive that
being in a room with latex products can bring on an
anaphylactic reaction.

Thanks,
Linda A. Madsen, RN, IBCLC
Anchorage, Alaska
