It's really important to write about inappropriate uses of baby bottles as
symbols for babies. It's been encouraging to read about the positive results
some of you have seen from your letters.

I was shocked (and definitely saddened!) awhile ago to receive a
pre-publication notice of a new midwifery book (think the publisher was
Jones & Bartlett, who publish Riordan/Auerbach and should know better). The
notice was in the form of a baby announcement, and guess what was included
in the border around the wording? I wrote to them but haven't heard anything
back but hope they will be more careful when planning future ad campaigns.
Most people simply aren't aware of how insidious that symbol is and those of
us who do, need to be sure we don't let opportunities for educating slip by.

I hope all of you who celebrate Christmas have had a lovely one.
