Does anyone have specific information on any standard recommendations for a mother who is a nurse and pregnant and possibly interested in working in the oncology area of nursing after delivery. This mother knew in her pregnancy that she was not to handle chemo therapy meds/etc., but after delivery when she is breastfeeding she is asking if there are any specific "rules/recommendations" for her to follow??

I checked with one Oncology dept. to see what recommendations they would have and the best response was to have her check with her physician. I know in our area many times when a breastfeeding questions is asked of some of the physicians, they tell the mother "call the lactation consultant" - I am just trying to gather information.

Thanks for any information.

Evelyn Landry, RN, IBCLC, RLC
