Dear Pam,
Glad to hear that the word is getting out that cow's milk is not the
uberfood pediatricians would have mothers think it is. To offer some
insight into your question at the end--when I was expecting my first child
(now 9 1/2), I went to a prenatal breastfeeding class with the vague
knowledge that breastfeeding was more "natural" and since I was an organic
food vegetarian that appealed to me. Another class participant had to clue
me in as to what formula was and what it was made from. I was at the time
in my mid-30's and college educated. There can be some appalling knowledge
gaps even in those who consider themselves well-informed. That reporter,
if childless (and like me never acquainted with infants until I had one),
may have not connected the dots. I didn't! Sounds like a no-brainer to me
now, but that's where I started.
