Hello all,
I have PTP. I am working with a mother who likely has insufficient
glandular tissue, and has struggled greatly with milk supply during
breastfeeding twice. This time, she is breastfeeding twins, and her supply
is even more tenuous. What would be her best birth control options? She
wants to be very cautious and doesn't want to do anything that would have
even a slight chance of impacting her milk supply, given her situation.
She initially considered a tubal ligation, but was worried that the time
away from the babies and not being able to eat or drink for 12 hours could
impact her supply. While it might not be an issue for most, because her
supply is so fragile, she doesn't want to take any chances. What are this
particular mom's best options?

Can even a copper IUD have an affect on supply? I know it is not hormonal,
but I have read accounts of some women bleeding heavily for many months
after it was inserted. I am thinking that her best options are combining
barrier methods and/or considering a vasectomy for her husband (no desire
for more children). Thank you for any insight or perspective you can
provide.

Sonya
