Hi Lactnetters. I really could use some help on this one. I am working with a
mom that was having severe pains at the side of her breast, underneath her
right arm. The pains she described were shooting pains and in her words if the
breast was a cup on a table, the pains are in the table not the cup. She is
currently bf. her second child who is now 18 months. The pains were getting so
bad that she cannot lift her arm comfortably over her head. She has been to
see three Dr.'s and has had mammograms, MRI's and a breast biopsy. During the
biopsy the surgeon cut her milk ducts and the incision has broken open twice
with milk coming out. So in addition to her original pains she has an ugly
purple incision that has become infected. One of the Dr.'s ? refused to give
her antibiotics because she was breastfeeding! A dentist gave her Keflex for
an infected tooth and that helped the infected incision some. She has now
been told by a Dr. that her pain is psychosomatic and that she should consult
a psychologist! I saw the incision myself last night and it is really ugly.
Does anyone have any idea what her next step should be? We are in the Metro
Detroit area and if anyone has any ideas on what could have caused her
original breast pains or knows of a physician in the area that is experienced
with lactating mothers please email me privately at Lisa Papas @aol.com.
Thanks!!!! Lisa Papas
