Dear Eutie,

There ia a great article in ABM News and Views, The Newsletter of the Academy
of Breastfeeding Medicine, Vol 3 Num.1, by Richard J. Schanler, MD called Huma
n Milk for the Premature Infant. There is no mention of Polycose but in
the closing paragraph he writes,
" The methods by which human milk is used in the nursery may reduce intake of
specific components, especially fat. The greatest losses of fat arise during
continuous milk infusion systems; these losses can be reduced by using the
shortest length of tubing possible and a syringe pump oriented upright
instead of a cassette. procedures should be adopted during the collection
and preparation phases that avoid losses of fat. The use of the higher
fat-containing hindmilk fraction may provide the additional energy needed to
improve body weight gain in premature infants."
This article is an accurate summary of a talk given by Dr. Shangler at the
first annual meeting of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine.

Most of us know this info already and I know this doesn't answer your
Polycose question but it's an article that all neonatologists should see.
