Thanks, Catherine, for the input about the mom I'm caring for who is a dwarf.
In eliciting further info, mother shared with me that she is not an
achondroplastic dwarf and indeed has an undiagnosed type of dwarfism. Dad also is not
achondroplastic--his is yet another type of dwarfism I had never heard
of--can't remember the name right now. But both have skeletal dysplasia. Baby is
apparently normal. The very good news is when I saw them prior to discharge mother
had lovely engorgement. Baby's a champion nurser so I'm very hopeful that
these somewhat hypoplastic appearing breasts really are not. Also of note there
were no infertility problems. Oh, and mom is not obese. No hx that I know of of
insulin resistance, but I didn't ask.

Kathy Boggs, RN, IBCLC

Achondroplasia should not directly influence the breasts, but it is
possible that if the mom is obese (weight control can be harder for
people with achondroplasia, because back pain can make exercise
difficult, and there is less limb length to spread weight out on...)
that she might have some insulin resistence. It is always possible for
two unrelated defects (achondroplasia and hypoplastic breasts) to occur
together in one person, even though they are not genetically related.
