Hi -

Mary Kay asks about hand pumps vs. electric pumps...

Many hand pumps can work well if they are well built. In fact,
mechanically, some hand pumps are better than some electric pumps. The
problem with a hand pump is that the motor (aka the mom) can fatigue. When
the mom fatigues, she often shortens the strokes or the strokes are no
longer smooth and mom does not let down well.

As far as how to get dad to give mom the "authorization" to get an electric
pump over a manual pump is to suggest that dad be the motor. This is most
easily done with a Medela pump set up as though on a Lactina and dad works
the piston. Usually it does not take long for dad to get the picture.

Oh, and Mary Kay, please share some of your winter. We need it!
