Not really the first, actually! Epigenetics is really exploding. Environmental Health Perspectives has a nice overview of the topic at <http://www.ehponline.org/members/2006/114-3/focus.html>. 

I recently wrote about environmental effects on fertility and read some really interesting research from Washington State University. The work was done in Michael Skinner's lab and they showed effects from a single prenatal exposure through four generations of mice. (Effects were on male fertility.) It's just amazing stuff.
