For the rest of you unsure about doing this, if you wish to express your
opinion re: Surgeon General nominations (or anything else on your mind,
actually) and you write to:

[log in to unmask]

You will receive an automatic reply note indicating your message was
received, but nothing more--owing to the high number of messages sent this
way (I believe more than 1 million in the past three years!)

However, the message is recorded.

Persons wishing to put pen/keyboard to paper and use the snail mail
approach can do so by writing:

President William Jefferson Clinton
The White House
Washington, DC 20500

Do not expect an answer from this either (although some people have
received form replies), but it is another way of expressing an opinion. My
understanding (as opposed to udderstanding! oops!!) is that letters are
counted "yea" or "nay" on issues.

Hoping this helps for those who wish to express an opinion, support (or
not) a nomination, and the like.
