Fun learning about immune properties of milk thought up by Kay & Chris , used with permission

Mechanism by which some of the components ofhuman milk protect the infant

1. macrophages--engulf andabsorb pacman

2. lymphocytes--are also called leukocytes

                                               T-cells, B-cells

recognize and help destroy the bad guys

Teacheron playground duty takes misbehaving kid to the Big Boss (principal) andthe principal says, ?Now I know what to do with you guys.?

Like immunizations, the bodyrecognizes the culprit and knows how to get rid of it.

3. secretory IgA--coats the intestinal wall so the bad guys cannot grab hold

                  Teflon

4. lactoferrin--binds iron

Thus it prevents the bad guys from getting the iron they need to survive

dumb bell delivery man--holds the iron until he reaches his destination

5. bifidus factor--bunny factor--promotes the growth of good bacteria(lactobacillus bifidus) that creates an acid environment which discourages thegrowth of the bad guys

6. oligosaccharides--fills in the spaces so the bad guys cannot attaching tothe wall of the gut

musical chairs (where all the seats are full)

7. lysozyme--breaks down the cell wall

sword fish who cuts through the diving suit

8. epidermal growth factor--stimulates cell growth (maturity and protection)--eaglefactor or the feather factor--
