Yesterday I posted about the 'safe @ home' site's use of a bottle graphic
for the feedback section. This is the response I received from them and my
reply.

Dear Joan,

Thanks for your feedback. As a pediatric nurse, I am aware of the concerns
of infant formula and of bottle use in general. However, our site is
devoted to home safety and not issues of child nutrition. We teach parents
to create a home environment that's safe for young children, one that's
specifically designed to prevent child-related accidents.

The bottle graphic is just that, a graphic that represents "feedback" - we
thought it was appropriate and a clever use of this graphic in that the
bottle causes feedback. There is no intent on our part to promote bottle
feeding. Would you prefer a breast with nipple graphic instead of the
bottle? If you have another suggestion for this graphic, we will consider
it. People who visit our site know that this is a site for child safety in
the home. We have links to other sites that are concerned with nutrition.
Breast feeding is not an issue at Safe @ Home as it does not fall into
what our site is all about - home safety and preventing child related
accidents in the home.

Thank you for your concern.

Dear Mr. Ginsberg,

Thanks for your response. I do understand that your site is not intended to
promote infant nutrition. However, I believe that by using the graphic of a
bottle, you are inadvertently promoting bottle feeding as a norm.

My thought was not to use any feeding symbol for the feedback symbol, but
instead use a graphic of a letter or some other such communication related
graphic. If you wanted to use a symbol of food to get feedback, then it
could be of an apple or a bowl of spaghetti or any other food that all
children would eat.

Thank you again,

Joan
