Chaka and Margaret: Gee, I might have missed it, but I'm pretty sure I
remember our clin spec talking about the Ross new diaper bag inservice
being offered this month. I looked on our education calendar but I don't
see it. But that inservice is out there somewhere! I had the same
question - what is there to inservice on a giveaway? Those of us who
attended ILCA last month received a wonderful tote that is identical to the
new Ross bag - fortunately, it has ILCA's logo on it rather than Ross'.
Our rep was on the unit the week I left for ILCA and tried to give me one
of the new bags, so imagine my surprise when I was handed ILCA's bag at
registration. I've been carrying it back and forth to work - maybe that's
not such a good idea. Someone might think it's a Ross bag!
The ILCA ID badge holder is great, too. Just the right size to carry
necessary ID and a little cash when you don't want to be loaded down with a
purse.
On a related topic, I've been informally networking with several hospital-
based LCs in my area and we've been thinking about getting together a
hospital LC networking task force that would maybe meet quarterly. I
attend (when I have the time) a similar group composed of leadership from
hospitals in the area. The purpose is to share what is being done in the
hospitals. We all have the same issues, we all fight the same battles, and
all face the same frustration. For example, when hospitals jumped on the
infant security bandwagon, it was helpful to find out what system each
hospital was using, the cost, the pros and cons. It helped many of the
hospitals to determine what system was best for them as well as tweak what
they already had to better meet their needs.
Is anyone who is hospital based, participating in any networking meetings?
Are they helpful? Most importantly, are they helping you to affect change
in your hospital?
