Susan, to conduct this study you should go through the process of approval
from the institutions you wish to obtain your subjects.
I would also recommend before you launch into this study to do a little more
back ground on why a baby would need a supplemental feeder.
You are correct that there are babies who recognize the tube on the breast
and only suck from it. Most babies will get addicted to an alternative feeding
method if used over an extended period of time. Some babies acquire this
addiction sooner than others.
I would also look more into the Haberman feeder. When I attended a
conference by Wolf and Glass they stated that the Haberman does not promote correct
sucking action when used. It has a "compression" action which works well for
cleft palates.

A study of the situations, length of time a supplemental feeder was needed
and mother's responses to these devises would be great.
