I just finished watching the first half of the Rob Nelson show on extended
breastfeeding. Two mothers were featured who are currently nursing 6 year
olds. There was some footage taken at a playground of the one mother nursing
both her 6 and 2 year old at the same time (they kept replaying the footage).
The host was quite gracious I thought and admitted that he was amazed that
women nursed that long. He was not sensationalistic at all. He did query a
few audience members who were offended and thought that 'one year is long
enough.' That same woman suggested putting the milk in a bottle for the 6
year old and not having her take it directly from the breast. The on stage
mothers were VERY well-spoken and defended themselves quite well, one even
quoting K.Dettwyler's findings on the natural age of weaning. An atty and
breastfeeding advocate in the audience was spoken to and did a great job as
well. (Her name was Alexis Neely). So, it was no Jerry Springer, thank
goodness. Could have been so much worse! Just wanted to share, Christine in
Ohio
