It's traditional in the US for research studies to give the study 
material or medication to participants free of charge. My main problem 
with the design of this study is that they are not going to have a good 
control group - 100% exclusively breastfed infants to compare to the two 
interventions (cow milk vs hydrolized cow milk formulas). If they had 
extensive breastfeeding support by independent IBCLCs to try to obtain 
exclusive bf, and then recruited moms for the other 2 arms who want to 
formula feed, it would be more likely to yield useful results. I don't 
think I'd refer moms to this study unless they had very special 
circumstances and were determined to use formula in advance.
