Hi Trish- I'm a long time lurker. I have a 4.5 year old who relearned to
nurse after a 7 month hiatus. My children are 19.5 months apart. I had to
wean at 13 months due to a history of premature cervical dilation. I realize
my situation is different than yours but thought I'd share my story. I'm a
nurse and always been breastfeeding friendly. My thought on the older child
nursing was if she wants to fine. Baby sister was born and Hope was
interested in what the baby was doing. She had forgotten how to nurse and I
told her it was like sucking on a straw and she could try it if she wanted
to. She first started mouthing it and then over time she began nursing
again. She still nurses occasionally.
I think you've done amazing things with your son. If he nurses great and if
not you know you tried your best. He may nurse yet. All the things he is
doing are signs of your great patience and caring. Like someone else said
you can talk to him about it. "If you suck on the breast, your milk will
come from mamma's breast and it will be yummy. Want to try?"

Good luck,

Gerry, mom to 4.5 year old "born again nurser"
