In response to some of the comments about the possibility of yeast.  Yes, I
do agree that yeast and or a secondary infection in the nipple crack should
be ruled out.  I must also comment that I can get a crack at the base of my
nipple from frequent night nursing.  Especially if I am tired and sleep
through feedings.  I have since learned to be more aware of positioning as
well as frequent nursing.  I also have found that my eczema flares around the
time of my period.
