I am not sure if anyone has mentioned Dr Christina Smillie (hope that is
correct spelling, conference booklet is at work)
She was speaking in Toronto June 05 and sharing some amazing videos
of non latching babies. Her method is to place babies skin to skin in the centre
of the breasts, head up legs down and see which side the babe bobs towards.
Once the babe has chosen a side the mother guides the baby into a cradle
position, supporting the trunk all the way and lo and behold the babe finds the
breast and latches on. You have to see the videos.
I did not believe this would work but since I see mostly non latchers in the second
or third week I was eager to try her methods.
Amazingly it worked with about the last 20 babies I have seen. Mom still needed extra
latching help for a while but all of these women are still breastfeeding.

Anyone else using Dr Smillies' methods?
