Hi all! I am posting for a mother of a 4 month old baby boy. I met her
when her baby was one week old and hospitalized for dehydration. We worked
on building her milk supply, and on her son's reluctant nurser issues. He
was very uncomfortable at the breast, pulling off screaming after one or
two sucks, very orally defensive, very difficult to soothe. None of my
suggestions seemed to work: baby did not enjoy gentle perioral massage,
nursing in the tub, he did not allow fingers in his mouth. Mom pumped and
fed milk to him with a nursing supplementer at the breast for two or three
weeks. Baby became very adept at "tube sucking," and not at all receptive
to nursing without the tube fully open.

After the first month, this hardworking mom found the double schedule of
pumping and the lengthy tube feedings too much for her; she then pumped and
bottlefed her milk to the baby. He is able to feed reasonably well with the
bottle; however, she notes that when he has gone too long between feedings
he exhibits the same type of screaming frustration and is very hard to
soothe. She has managed to continue providing 80% of his milk supply for
the last four months!!

My question is this: her baby has been diagnosed with Klinefelter's
Syndrome.
We are both curious how much of a role this genetic defect may play in his
feeding difficulties. I thought I'd ask my favorite 1000+ breastfeeding
experts to share any experiences and/or insights they may have about this
disorder and its effect on BF.

TIA!
