This is the virus I posted about several weeks ago. In my opinion, use of
email carries some responsibility to install and maintain current anti-virus
protection so one does not spread these worm viruses that attach to your
email directory. And I find that when I get and open these large
"forwarded" messages, I am more likely to get viruses. I have begun asking
that people not send me mass mailing messages due to this risk. In general,
those forwarded things are often like chain letters. Their intent is good,
but they really add a lot of clutter to my life, and some risk to my
computer files. And since I seem to be on a lot of these forward lists, I
get the same message for a week as they make the rounds. It is easy to be
flippant about these viruses until you lose your entire hard drive, as I did
a year ago. There were things destroyed (like some short stories I'd been
working on for years) that I foolishly did not have hard copies for. These
were bitter losses for me. I use E-remove now, which allows me to preview
email before I even down-load it from my server.
