Hi all, got a call yesterday from a long-ago client, still nursing her
4-year-old son, and a 15-month-old daughter as well. She is concerned about
her risk of "genetic breast cancer", two older female members of her family
having died from this, and another recently diagnosed. She tells me she has
seen two specialists, one in England and one in Zimbabwe, who both advise
bilateral mastectomy, as a *preventive* measure. She has been advised to
wean both nurslings within the next 8 weeks and to have the surgery as soon
as possible. She is coming to see me next week to get some information on
the protective effects of extended breastfeeding against cancer. Comments,
anyone?
