Dear Lactnet,

Hi I'm Chris Clark an IBCLC, and am once again subscribing to Lactnet.

Does anyone have experience or feedback on whether a person fighting cancer
should stop nursing?

A 40 year old client and dear friend has been diagnosed with colon cancer
and is nursing her 5th child who is 20 months old. Neither the child or the
mom are wanting to wean. She's leaning toward alternative complementary
therapies after having a lemon sized tumor removed from her colon 7 weeks
ago. Also removed were 19 lymph nodes with 2 containing cancer. She has
been reading about liver detoxifying, fasting, herbas, etc. and most
recommend weaning.

Her oncologist said that she would need chemotherapy for 6 months if she
goes that route and would need to wean. Outside of the cancer she has been
(and still seems to be) in excellent health.
