Jennifer, you took the words right out of my mouth. I have no other medical
credential. I am a teacher. [So, for that matter, is every other IBCLC on the
planet, whether or not she knows it, and whether or not she's an effective
one. And that does impact her clients. It's one thing to know the anatomy
and function of a breast and breastfeeding management. It's another thing
entirely to be able to communicate that knowledge to a new mother in a way
that now becomes useful to her; that's called "teaching". But I digress.]

If IBLCE has its way, my certification from them is useless. There is no law in
my state requiring me to be board-certified. All my IBCLC does for me is tie
my hands, seemingly. For whom am I supposed to advocate? The mother and
her child, or the medical establishment and its sizable yet-easily-wounded ego?
